There are a few differences between the mandatory cycle path (sign G-11) and the non-mandatory cycle path (G-13):

  • If a mandatory cycle path is present, cyclists and snorfietsers are not allowed to use the carriageway. They must ride on the cycle path.
  • If there is a non-mandatory present, cyclists may choose between the cycle path and carriageway.
  • Snorfietsers may only use a non-mandatory when they have turned off their combustion engine. An electric engine is allowed to be turned on.

A few signs in this category can also be executed as zone signs. These signs apply until the end zone sign.
