Use of lights during stopping
Not only while riding can the use of lights be compulsory. Even when stopped, the use of side lights in combination with the rear light can be required in some cases.
Running lighting while being stopped is required in the following cases:
- Only for motor vehicles on more than two wheels and trailers that:
- are stopped on the carriageway outside the built-up area;
- are stopped on parking lanes, parking bays, hard shoulders, and lay-bys that are immediately next to autowegen or motorways.
- This only applies with poor visibility during the day and at night.
It is therefore not required for two-wheeled motorcycles. However, there must always be a red reflector present on the rear side. If this is not present, then it is not allowed to park the motorcycle alongside the road (so not even in the verge!). Also, always make sure your motorcycle is parked in such a way that it cannot cause any danger or hindrance.

While parking, it is not required for a two-wheeled motorcycle to use lights, not even at night. However, it is required to have a red reflector on the rear of the motorcycle. Park your vehicle in such a way that it does not cause danger or hindrance.

Parking light
Some motorcycles are fitted with a special parking light setting. For example, it can be an additional position at in the ignition switch. If you turn your key to this position, then the parking lights stay lit, even if the key is taken out.
