Riding with a passenger or luggage
If you are riding with someone on the back, you as the driver are responsible for the safety. Agree in advance what you expect from the passenger and explain what they need to look out for. If you transport luggage on the moped, make sure it is transported in the correct way. Again, you as the driver are responsible for possible damages due to improper transport.
Safety
Not all snorfietsen and mopeds are suitable for two people. Some are built for the transport of just one person. They have no security at all and sometimes do not even have a seat for a second person. It is only allowed to take passengers on a vehicle with space for two people. Children under the age of 8 may only be transported on the back when there is a proper seat with enough support to the back, hands and feet.
Children under the age of 12 are not responsible for the helmet obligation themselves. In that case, the driver is responsible and will receive the fine if the child is riding along without a helmet. From the age of 12, the child is responsible and will receive a possible fine themselves. But as a driver, you will not let anyone ride along without a helmet anyways.

A passenger should sit as close to the driver as possible. This ensures a better balance while riding.

A passenger should be firmly seated, with their legs on either side of the moped. Riding along as shown above is not allowed.
Seating position
If you are riding with a passenger on your snorfiets or moped, the seating position is one of the most important points for the stability of the vehicle. It is best that the passenger sits as close to the driver as possible and not lean back. In bends, the passenger moves with the driver and looks past the driver through the bend.
Stopping distance
If you want to take someone on the back of your vehicle, or if you take a lot of (heavy) luggage, you should take into account that this increased weight causes a longer braking distance and therefore a longer stopping distance. In addition to that, the vehicle is less manoeuvrable.
Luggage
Sometimes it is necessary to carry luggage. Think of a sportsbag, a dufflebag or a grocerybag. The most important rule is that the luggage must be placed in such a way that it cannot fall off the vehicle while riding, steering and braking. If necessary, fasten the luggage with (tension) straps.
Make sure that the vehicle is not loaded too heavily and that the weight is properly dispersed. While riding, you are not allowed to be obstructed by the luggage and your vision in all directions must be good. You are not allowed to cause hindrance to yourself or other road users. The number plate and lighting must also stay clearly visible.

Transporting luggage like this is not allowed. This package sticks out to the sides too much and causes hindrance while riding. In addition, a moped, including load, may be a maximum of 1 metre wide.

You are allowed to transport a bag between your legs, provided that it does not obstruct the handling of the moped.
Tyre pressure and suspension
If the vehicle is loaded heavier due to a passenger and/or luggage, it is wise to increase the tyre pressure and, if possible, adjust the rear suspension.
