Warning lights and symbols
Passenger cars have various lights in the dashboard that warn you of something. The images on these lights may vary slightly in details per car make or type, but they are broadly the same. The colours are standard and also have a function:
- Red or flashing orange
Take immediate action by stopping, calling the garage or breakdown service, or fixing the problem yourself immediately. - Yellow or orange (not flashing)
Continue driving, but take action as soon as possible and solve the problem. - Green
Indicator lights indicate that something is switched on. Sometimes these can also be yellow, which means something is switched on which you usually have to switch off again as soon as it is no longer needed, e.g. the rear fog light. - Blue
Indicator light, indicates that the full-beam headlight is switched on.
